The outbreak of war significantly impacted the Pavilion. The “Selsey Follies” appeared for the final time in 1940, and from 1941 onwards, the Pavilion was ostensibly a cinema providing a much-needed escape from the harsh reality of war. The Pavilion frequently staged showings of films to raise money for the war effort or charities.
After the war, the Pavilion showed three weekly film programmes, including a Saturday matinee at 13:45 for children.
