Dances. The two weekly dances at the Church Hall and the Pavilion are still very popular, and even if pouring with rain, people get there somehow. Mrs. Buxton Knight tells me that she noticed wives went to her dances and husbands to the whist drives, and they hardly ever both went to the same function. She has decided, therefore, to give a whist drive in the back hall at the same time as the dance in the Church Hall, so that Darby and Joan can along together and incidentally keep an eye on each other. Time will prove if this idea will please everyone or if occasionally husbands and wives prefer be " foot-free.” Mrs. Wills Rust tells me that the “Paul Jones” and "the Lambeth Walk” are still strong favourites at the Pavilion. By the way, it is not true that Susan, Mrs. Rust’s Scottie, devoured the missing tin of flour powder under the misapprehension that it was custard powder. The tin was found later intact.
