Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1940-1949
PAVILION, SELSEY. When Larry Scott (Robert Young), a professional gambler, meets Mary Audrey (Barbara Hale), whose long line of gambling ancestors has made her hate all games of chance in any form, he agrees to give up gambling for ever and on this condition they get married. An hour after the ceremony, Mary sees him at a gambling table and, refusing to let him explain, applies for a divorce. In "LADY LUCK," the comedy romance on Monday for three days, Mary eventually finds herself—through a series of circumstances—the proprietress of a gambling club. Rousing adventure on the Spanish Main completes the week's entertainment with the re-issue of Rafael Sabatini's "THE BLACK SWAN," filmed in Technicolor. The romantic setting for Jamie Waring (Tyrone Power), pirate turned officer of the Crown, and lovely Margaret Denby (Maureen O'Hara), is the West Indies in the 18th century, when the seas were infested with ruthless buccaneers.
