Charity Concert – Chichester Observer – Wednesday, 06 March 1918
Transcript:

SELSEY. Concert and Presentation. A successful concert in aid the funds of the Royal West Sussex Hospital, organised by Mrs. E. Gardner, was, given in the Cinema Hall, Selsey, on Friday evening. The hall was packed with appreciative audience, every item of a good programme being well received. Mrs. Simpson, Sergeant Crouch, and Private Pope were vociferously recalled, while the songs of Mrs. Greville-Williams, Miss Head, and Boy O’Leary, and the violin playing of Miss Taylor and Private Ward were deservedly encored. At the close of the entertainment a very pleasing presentation was made to the Rev. K. H. MacDermott, who is leaving this week for Salonica as Chaplain to His Majesty’s Forces. The presentation was made by Mrs Gardner, and took the form of a purse. Mr. Dewey voiced the good wishes of the parish, and wished him “Bon voyage, God speed, and return,” to which the Rector feelingly responded. The Royal West Sussex Hospital will benefit to the extent of £20 11s 6d. as the result of the concert. Three hearty cheers, were accorded Mrs. Gardner for the successful way she had organized the entertainment. Those who contributed to the programme were: Mrs. Dunford and Miss M. Clayton a pianoforte solo; Sergeant Crouch and private Pope, comedy duet; Miss M. Rands song Miss lanthe Heron-Allen, dance; Mrs. Simpson, song; Miss Taylor, violin solo; Boy O’Leary, song; Mrs. Greville- Williams, song ; Private W. Ward, violin solo; Miss. T.
