SELSEY. A Fancy Dress Carnival. A fancy dress skating and dancing carnival held the Cinema Hall on Wednesday, the first of its kind to take place in Selsey, proved a big success, and excelled all expectations. About 40 competitors turned up in fancy dress, and many of the costumes were exceedingly good. Those deserving of special mention were worn by Mr. Martin, who caused great amusement with his get up as ’’Hitchy Koo.” Mr. Rands, “Chichester Skeleton” ; Mr. S. Botting, “Indian Chief” Mr. R. Ellis, “Black and White” ; Mr. V. Botting. “Nelson’’; Miss Maidment, "France” ; Miss Radford. "Belgium" ; Miss Willshire, “Fairy” ; Miss Legg, “Black and White” ; Miss May Cotton, "Great Britain.” The prizes to the successful competitors, distributed by Mrs. Lindsell, were as follow : Ladies —1, Miss C. Maidment, "France” 2, Miss Radford, "Belgium.” Gentlemen 1, Mr. W. Martin, “Hitchy Koo"; 2, Mr. V. Botting. "Nelson’.’ The voting, which was done by the public, was very close between the two ladies, only one vote separating. After the distribution of prizes. Sir Archibald Hamilton, Bart, made a short speech, in which mentioned that it was the first carnival its kind he had been to in Selsey, but he hoped it would not be the last. Skating and dancing followed alternately until about quarter to two, when a most enjoyable function was brought to close.
