SELSEY BRITISH LEGION DINNER. REPRESENTATIVE AND LARGE GATHERING. The fifth annual dinner of the Selsey branch of the British Legion took place at the Pavilion on Thursday (19th inst.), when over 200 members and their friends attended. Selsey's naval contingent were present in force, and included an admiral, a captain, and many other ex-officers, warrant officers and ratings. Mr. F. S. Potter presided, supported, amongst others by Mrs. Potter, Admiral A. R. Palmer, R.N., and Mrs. Palmer, Col. E. Inkson, V.C., D. S.O., R.A.M.C., Capt. M. Luck, O.M.G., D.S.O, R.N. and Mrs. Luck, Lieut.-Col. and Mrs. W. G. Moore, Major B. G. Sheppard M.V.O., D. S.0., T.D., Major Adair, Major E. Lewin T.D., and Mrs. Lewin, Major and Mrs. R. J. Lamb, Capt. and Mrs. W. C. Mathew, Mr. and Mrs. A. Pearl-Cross. After dinner the usual toasts were submitted, and between the speeches songs were rendered by Mr. W. H. Wroe, Miss J. Maidment, Miss C. Lamb, and Mr. T. A. Felton, to the accompaniments of Mr. R. Woodford. During the dinner selections were rendered by the Littlehampton Beach Hotel Orchestra, who also supplied the dance music after the toasts until 1 a.m. After the Chairman had proposed The King, Major E. G. Sheppard gave that of the British Legion, and congratulated the Selsey Branch on getting such a representative gathering there that night. If they were asked to describe the Legion he thought the briefest and best description was to say that it was a body of men who, during the War saw their duty and did it, and who, during peace time were doing the same thing. He concluded by asking for unity between Branch and Branch and County and County. N.B. Many more toasts, speeches and attendees have been edited out due to the volume of them.
