Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1950-1959
PAVILION, SELSEY. THE unforgettable film in which Gloria Swanson made her come- back, "SUNSET BOULEVARD," comes to the screen of the Pavilion, Selsey, for the first part of next week. Co-starring in the film are William Holden and Erich von Stroheim. The story tells in one long flash-back what happens when Joe Gillis (William Holden) is murdered and how he became involved with Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson), one-time silent screen queen, dreaming of a come-back; her former great director (Erich von Stroheim) and now Norma's all-round handyman; and Betty Schaefer (Nancy Olsen), a young studio story analyst, who is in love with Joe Gillis. A modern, honest and dramatic story of Hollywood life, it builds through strong characterization and dramatic suspense to its powerful and emotional climax. For the remainder of the week another great emotional drama, "THE HEIRESS," starring Ralph Richardson, Olivia de Havilland and Montgomery Clift, is showing.
