PAVILION, SELSEY. An unusual romance, laid against the exciting setting of a fiercely contested election, is the inspiration for "THE FARMER'S DAUGHTER," which comes on Monday for three days. Katie (Loretta Young), an unspoiled young farm girl, goes to the nearby city and is employed as a maid in the home of a young politician, Glenn Morley (Joseph Gotten), and his mother (Ethel Barrymore). The girl’s employers nominate a candidate for a vacant seat in Congress and are stunned when their maid gets up at a meeting and denounces him as unfit for office. The opposition party invites her to run for election herself— an exciting campaign ensues with surprising results. Fine light entertainment is provided for the remainder of the week by “CARNIVAL IN COSTA RICA," a happy Technicolor musical. According to the old Costa Rican custom, Luisa (Vera- Ellen) is betrothed to a man has never seen before, played by Cesar Romero; but trouble brews because each party is already in love with another.
