Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1940-1949
Pavilion, Selsey. Dealing with a theme that is both controversial and contemporary, Gainsborough's "DAYBREAK," to be screened on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, may be an historic picture because it has as its background the death penalty. Movingly acted by a fine cast—which includes Eric Portman, Ann Todd and Maxwell Reed—the story is that of a hangman's love for a London waif, from whom he keeps the secret of his job, until their happiness is shattered by the arrival of a Scandinavian seaman on the barge where they make their home. Valerie Hobson and Stewart Granger co-star in "BLANCHE FURY," Cineguild's Technicolor production showing on Thursday for three days. Into the colourful story is woven the romance between two people on one hand, and on the other, the more passionate craving for possession of an estate which the male lover believed to be his.
