Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1950-1959
PAVILION, SELSEY. PATRONS of the Pavilion, Selsey, could hardly wish for a greater contrast in the entertainment at that cinema, next week, "APARTMENT FOR PEGGY" featured for the first three days, and "BRIGHTON ROCK" at the end of the week. 20th Century Fox's new comedy, "Apartment for Peggy," stars Jeanne Crain, William Holden and Edmund Gwenn and is the story of the determined wife of an ex-serviceman who makes her husband continue studying at a university. Solving all matrimonial problems herself, she sets out to find an apartment, a retired professor (Edmund Gwenn) having to bear the brunt of her search. Things turn out happily, but not before many complications have arisen in finding an "Apartment for Peggy." Providing complete change from the comedy of its predecessor, "Brighton Rock" is the grim story of the razor gangs which ruled Brighton in the years Just before the second World War. Richard Attenborough, Hermione Baddeley and William Hartnell are starred in the film, which is good enough to convince even the most critical audience that Brighton was once the home of "protection" gangs. The film comes to an exciting climax on the race-course, where Pinky (Richard Attenborough) the gang leader, is going to eliminate one his colleagues, little knowing that his life is sought by another gang assembling nearby.
