Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1930-1939
FINE EFFORT BY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. The fragrant aroma many choice specimens of flowers pervaded the atmosphere of the Selsey Pavilion on Wednesday last, when the annual flower show —probably the biggest and most successful of its kind in Selsey—was held under the auspices of the local Horticultural Society. A gratifyingly large number of people attended and much comment was aroused the splendid array of exhibits. The judges were Mr. E. W. Fuller (head gardener to Lord Woolavington), and Mr. W. R See (head gardener to Major Courtauld), and other officials were: President, Mr. W. L. White Vice-President, The Right Rev. Bishop T. C. Twitchell, D.D. ; Hon. Treasurer. Miss Gardner, Mytchetts Croft, Church Norton; Hon. Secretary, Miss L. S. Bidwell, Northlands, Selsey; and Committee, Drs. Barford, Halsted and Humphrys. Messrs. Cox, Dawes. Hollingdale, W. Mills, Smart, S. Terry and L. H. Turtle, Mesdames Ponder, Pearce, Sayers and Humphrys. and the Misses Lloyd, Marshall and Rusbridge. The silver cup for the highest number points in the show was won by Mr. H, R. Fogden, who is gardener to Mrs. N. Holden. N.B. A very lengthy list of prize winners has been edited out.
