Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1930-1939
W.l. Meeting. Selsey Women's Institute met at the Pavilion on October 8th. The speaker was Miss Rhoades, who held the audience spellbound by her beautiful account of all the wonderful secrets of the “Scent of Flowers." She told not only of the scientific reason for the variety of perfumes and the connection between scent and colour, but also of old time uses of flowers and aromatic herbs and old beliefs about them. After tea the Selsey Girl Guides gave an excellent series of tableaux illustrating the Guide Law. Potatoes that had been grown for the hospital from seed potatoes given out in the spring were brought in. The greatest amount had been grown by Mrs. Humphries, and the second by Mrs. Tupper. The prize for the best display of autumn leaves was won by Miss Rawlinson. The handicraft exhibits which had gained prizes at the County Exhibition at Horsham were on show. The President announced that including both sections Selsey had gained 114 stars in the exhibition.
