SELSEY. Successful Recruiting Meeting. On Thursday at the Selsey Cinema, at the instigation of the Recruiting Officer for Selsey and District (Mr. Archibald Hamilton, Lieut. National Reserve) a most successful recruiting meeting was held. Captain Rose, the officer commanding Selsey, was in the chair, and was supported on the platform by Lieutenant Hamilton, Captain Carey and Captain Ballard (Southdown Battalion, R.S.R., Colonel Lowther’s Batt.), Captain Stephen, National Reserves, Captain Brown. R.E., Captain Berwick, late 42nd Highlanders, Mr. Marshall, and Mr. Burgess, while amongst others to be noticed the gallery, which bad been reserved for the ladies, were Mrs. Arthur Leveta, Lady Sykes, Miss Tomases, Miss St. John Smith, Miss Wells, Mrs. and Miss Stephen. The officers now quartered Selsey, Mr. R. Jewell, Mr. Hayton, Mr. Meades, and numerous others. Mr. Hamilton made a capital speech on behalf of recruiting and excellent speeches were also delivered by Captain Rose, Captain Carey, and Mr. Burgess. Captain Carey, together with his brother officer. Captain Ballard, has been detached from Colonel Lowther’s Battalion for recruiting purposes in West Sussex, and in spite of the Country having been so well worked they have managed to acquire in West Sussex during the last fortnight another 100 men.
