Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1920-1929
SELSEY. Victory Sealed. The Conservative and Unionist Association of Selsey gave a most enjoyable social at the Pavilion on Wednesday night. The object of the gathering was, in addition to celebrating Major Courtauld's success, to give the member an opportunity of becoming personally acquainted with his constituents, irrespective of their political opinions. Dr. Humphrys, the Chairman of the Men's Branch, introduced Major and Mrs. Courtauld in a short speech from the platform, on which were also Mrs. Humphrys, Mr. Wakely, the Vice-Chairman of the Men's and Women's Branches, Mrs. Sayers and Lieut.-Colonel Moore, the respective Hon. Secretaries. Regrets were expressed from Mrs. Wentworth-Taylor, the Women's Chairman, at her inability to take an active part owing to continued ill-health. Major and Mrs. Courtauld then make a tour of the Hall, speaking individually to each of those present, estimated at about 300. An excellent Cafe Chantant took place, the refreshments for which were most carefully organised by the Women's Branch. After a short speech from Major Courtauld, the Hall was cleared. and dancing indulged in till about 12.10 a.m. The Selsey Jazz Band, consisting of Messrs. C. Smith, Creswell, Tupper, Barrow and C. Foster, gave a much appreciated entertainment and also played for the dancing.
