Boxing Contests – Chichester Observer – Wednesday, 19 May 1915
Transcript:

SELSEY. Boxing Contests. The Cinema Hall was literally packed on Saturday evening, when some attractive boxing contests were witnessed. Cyclist Farrah, “Q” Company, v. Cyclist Preece, “M” Company, and Cyclist Brown, “Q” Company v. Lance- Corporal Hooper. “M” Company, provided very good exhibitions, and a three round blindfold contest between Zacker Newell and Buster Balbrick was productive of much amusement. Great interest was evinced in a six round contest between Corporal Croucher, welter weight champion of Hants, and Ray Harmsworth, of Selsey, but the gallant Corporal proved far too good. Dr. Humphrys and Mr. H. A. Smith kindly acted as referees. Among those present were Lieutenant Archibald Hamilton, Recruiting Officer for Selsey and District .(eldest son of Sir Edward Hamilton, of Iping), who attended with a large party, and Captain Bristow, with other officers of the 9th Hants at Selsey.
