Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1950-1959
PAVILION, SELSEY. THERE is a double-feature horror programme, "THE BODY SNATCHERS" and "INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN," for the first part of the week. The former film tells of the invasion of the Earth from mysterious outer space beings, and the latter records the death-laden adventures of an American killer brought back to life by a secret process. The poignant story of a mother and daughter separated by divorce court ruling, "TEEN-AGE REBEL" stars Ginger Rogers and Michael Rennie. Jack Hawkins is seen as an insurance assessor investigating a mysterious fire at a country mansion in "FORTUNE IS A WOMAN," in which he co-stars with the American actress, Arlene Dahl. Adapted from the best-selling novel by Winston Graham, the film gives Hawkins his first romantic role. When he investigates the fire, Hawkins finds that a painting, claimed to have been destroyed, is a fake; the original had been sold before the fire. His investigations lead him to suspect the owner's wife, but he Is so infatuated with her that he fails to follow up the clues in this direction. This reluctance to act has a strange and tragic aftermath.
