Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1920-1929
Allocation of United Services Fund. To consider the best means of allocating the amount allotted to the ex-Service men of the parish out of the United Services Fund, a meeting of ex-soldiers and sailors was held in the Pavilion on Thursday evening. The Rector, the Rev. K. H. MacDermott, who is an honorary chaplain to the forces, presided over a gathering numbering about 80. Mr. W. Petts, Secretary of the Local Welfare Committee explained how the Fund originated from the surplus canteen profits, and mentioned that Selsey's share amounted to about £67. A suggestion that the money should be entirely devoted to the Royal West Sussex Hospital was turned down, as was a scheme that it should be allocated to the fund for Selsey orphans, and it was eventually decided by a very large majority to divide the money equally between the Royal West Sussex Hospital and the Selsey Nursing Association. These institutions will therefore receive about £33 apiece.
