PAVILION, SELSEY. "THE GOLDEN ARROW " (Sunday and Monday) is a romantic comedy starring Paula Vakenska, Jean-Pierre Aumont, Burgess Meredith and Richard Murdoch. The amusing story concerns a Frenchman, an American and an Englishman who each indulge in a romantic day dream about a girl they meet on a journey from Paris to London. A great film, widely acclaimed.is showing on Tuesday and Wednesday "CRY THE BELOVED COUNTRY," adapted from Alan Paton's famous book. It traces the story of the Rev. Steven Kumalo (Canada Lee), a poor parish priest in South Africa. who leaves his village home for the city streets in an effort to find his lost son, Absolom. It reveals the aloofness that exists between James Jarvis (Charles Carson), a rich white farmer, and Stephen Kumalo, although they are neighbours. When Jarvis's son is killed and Absolom is charged with murder, tension is built up in masterly fashion. "GIFT HORSE" (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) is the story of an old destroyer that was given by America to Britain in 1940. Nothing goes right. The ship is dogged by bad luck on each of its missions until the Admiralty find an unusual task for it. The bows are to be filled with explosive so that it can ram and destroy a German-occupied French port. The ship's tough captain is portrayed by Trevor Howard and Richard Attenborough is one of the ratings.
