Film Preview – Bognor Regis Observer – Saturday, 30 December 1950

PAVILION, SELSEY. AMONG the younger generation a fierce argument has been raging as to the merits of each new successor to the Tarzan crown, but it is generally accepted that Johnny Weissmuller, who is starred in "TARZAN AND THE MERMAIDS" at the Pavilion, Selsey, for the first part of next week, will never be bettered. In the film he is co-starred with Brenda Joyce and Linda Christian, and the story, as usual, has a jungle setting. The plot concerns a pearl fishing village and the unscrupulous men who make money out of the natives. For the second part of the week, Warner Bros.’ thrilling adventure story of the naval aviators who form a large part of the modern navy's striking force, "TASK FORCE." is the main attraction. In the starring roles are Gary Cooper, Jane Wyatt, Wayne Morris and Walter Brennan. The film tells of naval officer who was one of the first to think seriously of carrier-borne ’planes, and exciting battle scenes in which carrier 'planes and their mother ships are in action against the enemy form a vivid background to the latter parts of the production.
