Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1950-1959
PAVILION, SELSEY. THE brilliant and well-loved evergreen melodies of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart can be heard at the Pavilion, Selsey, Monday and Tuesday next week. The film, "WORDS AND MUSIC", is a Technicolor musical with no less than 14 stars. Among them are Mickey Rooney and Tom Drake, portraying the song-writing team, Vera Ellen and Gene Kelly supplying the snappy dancing acts, while the vocals of 22 Rodgers and Hart hit tunes, are sung by June Allyson, Perry Como, Judy Garland, Lena Horne, Ann Sothern, Cyd Charisse, Betty Garrett, Janet Leigh, Marshall Thompson and Mel Torme. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Jack Warner, Richard Attenborough, Dirk Bogarde, Jimmy Hanley and Barbara Murray star in "BOYS IN BROWN,” a story set in a Borstal institution, where patrons can see the manner in which boys are guided and helped back on to the straight path. There are many amusing incidents in the scenes, but at the same time, the film attempts to show the cause of, rather than the cure for, juvenile delinquency.
