Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1940-1949
PAVILION, SELSEY. Inspired by the life of Edna Gladney, superintendent of the Texas Children's Home and Aid Society. "BLOSSOMS IN THE DUST," showing on Monday for three days, stars Greer Garson as the woman who first awakened public interest in the field of child welfare. Walter Pidgeon is ideally cast as Sam Gladney, playing opposite Miss Garson, in depicting the lives of a man and woman who, having lost their own child, fill the void in their hearts by bringing happiness to more than 2,000 babies, born in less fortunate circumstances. In "SOUTH AMERICAN GEORGE," George Formby brings to the screen comedy at its best, providing happy entertainment for the remainder of the week. As a hapless lad with operatic ambitions but no ability, he is persuaded to impersonate—with remarkable results- an extremely temperamental opera star who has walked-out, and to whom George bears a striking resemblance.
