Film Preview – Bognor Regis Observer – Thursday, 19 December 1957
Transcript:

PAVILION, SELSEY. ONE of the outstanding Western films of the year, "THE TALL MEN." features Clark Gable, Jane Russell and Robert Ryan in the leading roles. The film opens in the frontier town of Mineral City, Montana, shortly after the Civil War. Two desperate Texans, Ben and Clint Allison, stage a hold-up when they see an elegantly dressed man collect a large sum of money from a saloon proprietor. The stranger, whose name is Stark, tells them that he is a cattle-owner who drew the money so that he could buy extra cattle in Texas and drive them 1,500 miles, through Indian-infested territory to Montana, where cattle are in great demand. Stark offers Ben a job as trail boss, and, tempted by his promise of great riches, the brothers join him in his hazardous venture. The feature for the last part of the week is the colourful screen version of "CAROUSEL."
