WOMEN'S INSTITUTE. The monthly meeting was held at the Pavilion on Wednesday last, Miss Hillman presided. The monthly lecture was given by Miss Rhodes on "Flowers and their Scents." During the transaction of the business mention was made of the success of the members at the recent county exhibition at Horsham, the following being given the highest award, viz., three stars, for their exhibits: Shirts, Mrs. Sayers. Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Barrett; knitting, Miss Hillman; jam, Miss Rawlinson, Miss K. Maidment and Mrs. Maidment; jelly, Miss K. Maidment; lemon curd, Mrs. Thomas: fruit wine, Mrs. Simpson and Mrs. Beaty; chutney, Mrs. Osman. pickles, Mrs. Godel; Swiss roll, Mrs. Simpson; sweets (boiled), Miss Maidment; sweets (unboiled), Miss Rawlinson; trussed fowl, Miss Plumbley. In all 114 stars were gained by the branch. The result of the potato growing competition was: 1, Mrs. Humphrys; 2, Mrs. Tupper. Other results were: Lucky number prize. Mrs. Lamb, and best bunch of autumn leaves, Miss Rawlinson. An excellent entertainment was then given by the local Girl Guides, under Mrs. G. F. Shackle, the Guide Captain, the subject being "A tableau of the Girl Guide laws." It was announced that a profit of £8 17s. 6d. was made as a result of a recent whist drive.
