Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1950-1959
Selsey Cinema Re-opened. With television threatening the cinema world with possible extinction a 56 year old Selsey man has re-opened a cinema by himself. He is Mr. Jack Tupper, who recently bought the Pavilion Cinema, Selsey, which has been closed for the past 10months. A lot of hard work, personal enterprise, and re-decorating was needed to re-awaken the dormant and cobwebbed old building, but on Sunday, silver-haired Mr. Tupper - estate agent by day, cinema manager by night - with his part-time staff in the background, stood proudly at the doors for his opening night. Afterwards he said; "It is too early yet to tell what is going to happen, but so far we have not fared too badly. Of course the biggest enemy is television, but the local people have been without pictures for quite a while and I am determined to try to make it a success, although I haven't had much experience at the job"
