SELSEY. Conservative and Unionist Association. The Selsey branch of the Chichester Division of the Conservative and-Unionist Association held their annual general meeting in the Pavilion Friday last, the attendance being small, owing to the weather. Musical and Literary Society. A meeting of the Selsey Musical and Literary Society was held on Monday evening in the Small Hall. The subject was ‘' Silk Stockings and Legs,' Dealt with by Miss C. Warner, the well-known W. I. speaker. A.O.F. Entertainment. The local Court of the Ancient Order of Foresters "Star of Selsey" No. 3954 gave an entertainment to the school children on Wednesday, January 22nd. Thirty of the members' wives and friends waited on 226 children in the Pavilion, and the tea was greatly enjoyed by all. Mr. Dewey expressed the thanks of the children, who also showed their appreciation with hearty cheers. Later in the evening, a public meeting and entertainment was held for adults, Rt, Rev. Bishop Twitchell, D.D., being in the chair: He congratulated the Court on the rapid strides they had made since its initiation in 1862. It started with 25 members and no capital, but had grown steadily year by year, until the death of the late Secretary, Brother J. Lawrence. The work had been well carried on by various Secretaries and the Court could now boast of funds to ihe value of £ 5,713. The Chairman asked for fresh members, and offered himself as the first new member to be enrolled. Brother H. Dawes, Court Secretary, explained that £90I of the surplus funds had been allocated to form a special fund to pay members' contributions when they reached the age of 65. Bro. S. Clarke (District Chief Ranger) spoke on probationary work amongst the juvenile section and of the Order's Insurance Fund Scheme. Major Woodford’s troupe gave an amusing variety programme, the artistes being the Misses Winnie Sluman, Connie Lamb and Jess Maidment. and Messrs. Charlie Pratt and J. Lawrence.
