Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1950-1959
PAVILION, SELSEY. THE thrill-inspired escapades of J. Thaddeus Toad of Kenneth Grahame's “WIND IN THE WILLOWS” are combined with those of Washington Irving's legendary Ichabod Crane, in Walt Disney's all-cartoon feature comedy, “THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR TOAD," which is showing at the Pavilion, Selsey, for the first part of the week. In the Ichabod sequences, Bing Crosby is the singer and narrator, heralded as his greatest motion picture achievement, Cecil B De Mille's Paramount production in Technicolor of "SAMSON AND DELILAH” comes to the screen for the second part of the week. Hedy Lamarr and Victor Mature head a cast thousands, including George Sanders, Angela Lansbury and Henry Wilcoxon. As the mighty Samson, Victor Mature provides remarkable portrayal, while Miss Lamarr's role as the provocative Delilah, is breathtakingly beautiful. Eight days were taken over the filming of the collapse of the Philistine temple, and never before has a scene been staged with such terrifying realism, making a worthy climax to a film which is based on the greatest love story in history from the greatest book the Holy Bible.
