PAVILION, SELSEY. One of the most exciting and best loved of John Buchan's stories "THE 39 STEPS" comes to the screen with Kenneth More in the role of the immortal Richard Hannay. Lovely Finnish actress Taina Elg portrays the schoolteacher, Fisher and James Hayter's performance as the incredible " Mr Memory" is highly convincing. The gripping story, full of action and suspense tells how one simple action by Hannay - the picking up of a baby's rattle in Kensington Gardens - sparks off a trail leading to espionage, intrigue and murder. From the moment he hands the rattle to the baby's nurse, Hannay finds himself enmeshed in a web of evil. A touching relationship between a Young Polish seaman and a little girl, who guards his dreadful secret, is the sentimental theme of "TIGER BAY" which stars John Mills, Horst Buchholz, Yvonne Mitchell and Hayley Mills. Returning home to his girl friend's apartment, the seaman (Horst Buchholz)) finds it occupied by a stranger. He eventually finds her, now estranged and aloof, in another house. They quarrel violently and in a struggle the girl is shot dead. Through the letter-box the wide horrified eyes of a little girl, Gillie Evans (Hayley Mills) watch it all - she is the only witness. A bloodstained handkerchief is the only clue for Scotland Yard when the body of a young and beautiful girl is found stabbed on Hampstead Heath. Motives for the murder unfold themselves in the forms of love and hate of many men, when the body is identified as that of a girl called "SAPPHIRE". Her name gives the title to this intriguing murder. The cast includes Nigel Patrick, Yvonne Mitchell, Michael Craig and Bernard Miles.
