Sadly this project does not require a Tardis. The items above are a sample taken from a “time capsule” that was secreted away back in June 1934. On the left are tickets that were torn in half on entry. On the reverse was a stamp denoting the excise tax payment as part of the ticket price. The cigarette packets also indicate that smoking was permitted in the auditorium. It was a discarded cigarette end that caused the fire in 1926! In the centre are examples of chocolate treats. On the right is a party hat. The Pavilion was often used for many community events and celebrations in the pre-war era.

Time capsule challenge competition.

This capsule was hidden away 90 years ago to the month! The Trustees want to mark this anniversary by launching a competition for children to suggest what small items could be included in a modern day time capsule and to give a reason why they should be included. Entry forms will only be available in Chaplin’s Coffee House during the length of the school summer holidays in late July and the month of August. Hannah and her Chaplin's team look forward to seeing you. The terms and conditions will be written on the entry form. Those chosen as winners will receive a prize and the chance to place their chosen object into the 2024 capsule.
