Welcome to the January edition of our newsletter.

Boxing was featured in our December newsletter. The forms of combat featured this month are much more genteel and take us back to the 1920s. They serve as a reminder of the versatility of the Pavilion.
A less combative style of battle was chess. The result of a match played at the Pavilion was covered in the Chichester Observer on 25th April 1923.
A chess match was played at the Pavilion, Selsey, Saturday afternoon between the above clubs:
Red Triangle. F. Bell 0, F.C. Funnell 0, C. S. Evans 1, J. L. Parker 1, F. Williams 1, E. C. Funnell 0, H. King 0, L. R. Evans 0, B.J. Wells 0 Total 3. Selsey S.H. Day 1, H. Phillips 1, H. Belcher 0, Dr. Halstead 0, A. R. Edwards 0, Miss. Wills 1, F. W. Potter 1, H. Chambers 1, Mrs. Belcher 1 Total 6.
Selsey managed to achieve a 6-3 victory. Checkmate! 🏆
Whist was another classic game played extensively in the Pavilion:
In Aid of St Dunstan’s. A very successful whist drive and dance was organized by Messrs. Chrippes and Cleere at the Pavilion Selsey on Thursday last, and in spite of this being the second drive for this excellent cause within a period of a. few weeks, over 30 players competed.
