This month we reflect upon the dark days of December 1940 when Britain was subjected to regular bombings during the Blitz and rationing of essential foodstuffs. Selsey residents had experienced occasional excitement, such as when a yellow Me-109 crashed pilotless on 1st November 1940 west of Medmerry Mill, but it was the Pavilion that provided most of the thrills of a different kind through a full programme of films as seen below.

Some of the Hollywood Greats appeared on the silver screen such as Cagney and Bogart, alongside some British Stars. The emphasis was firmly placed on comedy and action to provide the perfect escape from the ravages of war.

“Lucky To Me” was a 1939 British comedy based on the 1928 stage show “So This is Love” starring Stanley Lupino and Phyllis Brooks.
